INSTRUCCIONES PARA SOBREVIVIR EN LO OSCURO

  • Con FONT GARCÍA, VITO SANZ y JUAN VINUESA
  • ,

AT HOME AT THE ZOO

  • Con FERNANDO TEJERO, DANI MURIEL y ANA LABORDETA
  • ,

SYNOPSIS: Despite being married, Peter and Ann's daily life is marked by lack of communication and loneliness. Shunning Ann's attempt to cope, Peter decides to spend the day at the Zoo in Central Park. There he will meet Jerry, an eccentric character who forces him to listen to his stories until the last and most creepy of all: the real reason for his visit to the zoo.

PRODUCTION NOTE: At Home At the Zoo is formed by Edward Albee's famous play The Zoo Story, premiered in 1958, and its prequel written 45 years later, At Home. In the first act, the author offers a revealing look at the stable and happy marriage of Peter and Ann, their attempts to communicate, their frustrated dreams and the loneliness of their shared life. In the second act, while Peter reads on a bench in Central Park, a strange guy, Jerry, will begin to tell him stories that will open the door to the wildest side of his nature.

At Home At the Zoo It is a theatrical gem that dissects the human condition in a shocking way. Brilliant dialogues, sharp description of characters, pain, rage, lack of communication and also tenderness, hope and consolation. All of this with a sophisticated tone of absurdity that irremediably connects us with the times we live in. Three extraordinary players, Fernando Tejero, Mabel del Pozo and Dani Muriel, under the talented direction of Juan Carlos Rubio assisted by an extraordinary creative and production team, bring this play into life, showing us the reality of human beings who need to get rid of the anguishing sensation of being nothing more than beasts trapped behind the bars of a zoo.

At Home At the Zoo is a two-acts show with a length of 40 minutes each.

THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT

  • Con JORGE SANZ, ÁNGELES MARTÍN y GONZALO HERMOSO
  • ,

SYNOPSIS: John D'Agata is a talented writer with a transcendent essay about the suicide of a teenage boy—an essay that could save the magazine from collapse. When Jim is assigned to fact check D'Agata's essay, the two come head to head in a comedic yet gripping battle over facts versus truth.

DIRECTOR NOTES: "That's how things are and that's how we told them." In this way, a well-known TV presenter from Spain closed the evening newscast. But those things didn't seem to be same on the competition's channels. So what things are true? Can the narrative vagueness of some facts affect the core of a true story? After how many errors does it become false? Here it lies the cornerstone on which an ancestral debate is based, one that has fed journalists from all over the world for centuries, be they from print, television or digital media. If facts were nothing more than dates, names and figures, we would need just one single newspaper, television channel or online news feed. Oddly, the totalitarian countries where this occurs are a breeding ground for "fake news", sending an unique and indisputable message -under penalty of jail- stating "that's the way things are". Reality vs. Authenticity. Empirical facts vs. Writing style in order to tell a story with greater "truth". Based on a true story, The Lifespan of a fact synthesizes this debate with success and takes it to the stage, masterfully combining intelligence, comedy and current affairs. All I wish to find in a play: to be entertained and fed for thought.

ONE CAREFUL OWNER

  • Con KITI MÁNVER, CRISTÓBAL SUÁREZ y MARTA VELILLA
  • ,

SYNOPSIS: Luis is offered the perfect apartment: roomy, very bright, luxurious and so inexpensive. There's just one problem: she can't move in until the current owner, the elderly Lola, dies.

DIRECTOR NOTES: Life? What is life? A question that humans have asked themselves since they lived in caves and even today no one has managed to fully answer. Years ago I came across a quote by John Lennon: "Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans" and I found it absolutely revealing. Plans, future, expectations, mortgages... Who has not made the mistake of leaving happiness for tomorrow? Or at least, who has not fallen into the temptation of trying to control events to prevent them from turning our existence upside down? With these premises I wrote this simple fable called The Inconvenience (aka 100m2). A story of wounded souls struggling to communicate and, why not, to learn to live properly. It is impossible to build a theatrical show without a large team of creators and technicians. And this one put together by our producers (Talycual, Txalo and La Alegría, led by Bernabé Rico) is first class. Thank you all for giving form to this story of shared solitudes. At your side things are very easy. And thank you Kiti, Cristóbal and Marta for your unwavering faith and your tremendous talent. Dear audience, I hope you enjoy the show. And don't forget that first things must always come first, they must always come NOW.

Pau Casals was forced into exile in the south of France after the Spanish Civil War. He dedicated himself to helping thousands of compatriots in nearby labor camps. In 1943, under Nazi occupation, the cello master received a disturbing invitation to play before the Führer. Casals knew that refusing to do so could have dire consequences. These dramatic events inspired the authors to write this exciting play that recreates a critical event in the life of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.

SYNOPSIS: When Julia Martín, an isolated creative writing professor at Salamanca University, begins to mentor a brilliant but enigmatic student, Hugo, the two form an unexpectedly intense bond. As their lives and the stories they tell about themselves become intertwined in unpredictable ways, Julia makes a surprising request of Hugo. Brimming with suspense, Rapp's riveting play explores the limits of what one person can ask of another.

DIRECTOR NOTES: Since Toni Acosta sent me the play by the end of 2021, I was fascinated by this project. On the one hand, Adam Rapp, its author, masterfully managed to mix reality and fiction, proposing a disturbing parallelism between creation and life. Bella and Christopher (Julia and Hugo in my translation) are two enigmatic characters who find in literature the only escape route to an existence that they can't find reasonable. On the other hand, working with Toni again was an immense gift. She is a stunning actress in each and every aspect you can imagine. We just had to find the perfect antagonist in this exciting story. And here is one of the most talented young actors on the current came into scene, ready to make his stage debut and accompany us on this crazy journey called theater: Omar Ayuso. Thank you both for making me enjoy every day with your art. Of course, in order to create this show, we needed producers ready to take on the gigantic effort that producing theater entails today. We couldn't be in better hands. Txalo, Leona Madre and La Alegría, under the marvelous executive production of Talycual, have given shape to a show that I couldn't be more proud of. Thanks to all the professionals who have built what a few months ago was nothing but a dream. Thank you, Isabel Romero de León, for being my right hand. Thank you, Marisa Pino, for being my left one. Now it is up to you, our dear audience, to abandon yourself to The Sound Inside, the one that speaks to us from the mysterious and indecipherable place where our loneliness lies.
